The Student Forum of the United Methodist Student Movement is an annual spiritual development and leadership training conference for college and university students. Established in 1989, Forum provides an opportunity for students to voice their concerns within the life and organization of The United Methodist Church and to develop specific plans for addressing those concerns. Students will be challenged to learn in new ways, be exposed to new ideas, and gain a better understanding of the complexity surrounding some of the most important issues in The United Methodist Church today. Student Forum 2008 will be held May 22-25 at American University, a United Methodist-related university in Washington, D.C. The theme for this year’s gathering is “Be the Change: The Fruit of Love” based on John 15:12-17. As students explore ways to live as disciples of Jesus Christ, they will participate in immersion field trips in Washington, D.C., worship, discuss legislation, attend workshops, and join in small groups. “This is my commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you … You did not choose me but I chose you. And I appointed you to go and bear fruit, fruit that will last, so that the Father will give you whatever you ask him in my name. I am giving you these commands so that you may love one another. –John 15:12, 16-17
